Since its founding in 1881 by visionary leader Clara Barton, the American Red Cross has been the nation's premier emergency response organization. As part of a worldwide movement that offers neutral humanitarian care to the victims of war, the American Red Cross distinguishes itself by also aiding victims of devastating natural disasters. Over the years, the organization has expanded its services, always with the aim of preventing and relieving suffering.
Oxfam America is an international relief and development organization helping people overcome poverty and fighting for social injustice with individuals and local groups in more than 120 countries. It is an affiliate of Oxfam International.
Travcoa and its employees are supporting international relief efforts for the victims of the recent devastating cyclone in Myanmar May 2 and the 7.9 earthquake in southwestern China’s Sichuan Province May 12.
“Travcoa is supporting the American Red Cross and Oxfam International’s relief efforts in China and Myanmar. These distinguished organizations were immediately on the scene to provide staff and volunteers to distribute food, water, tents and medical assistance. Both have solid track records of putting donations to effective use. For concerned travelers, looking for ways to help these worthy efforts, we have included links to the websites of these two charitable organizations.” said Randy Durband, President of Travcoa, world leader in luxury travel.

The American Red Cross has provided an initial contribution of $10 million to support the relief efforts of the Red Cross Society of China. These funds are being used to provide immediate relief including the purchase and distribution of relief supplies, coordination of logistics and transportation of disaster workers to the hardest hit areas. More than 35,000 staff and volunteers with the Red Cross Society of China are on the ground distributing food, water, tents and other essential items.
Oxfam colleagues based in the neighboring province of Yunnan are now traveling to Wenchuan County in Sichuan the epicenter of the quake and also planning to provide assistance in Gansu Province. The organization has committed $1.55 million to this initial response providing earthquake survivors with clean water, food, medicine, clothing, and blankets.
